We all know at least one story about magical pants. However, this isn’t about a traveling pair of jeans. Just one of those “what a find” moments that turned into a decade of style.
It was 2013 and I had just given birth so my body was in a state of transition that had me way into my feelings when it came to clothes shopping. I was clueless what to look for that would go the distance and reinvigorate my love for style since my life had just been turned upside down by a tiny human. I needed comfort, I needed longevity, and I needed to make a statement after 10 months of maternity tops and banded jeans.
Looking online at secondhand clothes, I stumbled across these soft-looking leopard pants. It was the front pleats that sold me. Anything to give me a semblance of shape back. They seemed to check every box as I added to cart. I had no idea just how good they would be.
The stretch in the waist was unbelievable. How easily I could tuck in a top without bunching in the ample hip area. The fabric was soft yet thin to help me keep my cool. But what would they go with?
Everything.
These pants have walked me through numerous dress sizes, jobs, social settings, you name it. They are the thing I can’t wait to wear in the summer and the staple I live in between every single heat wave. Aside from that above pictured Cramps shirt I bought 21 years ago, they are my oldest piece of clothing.
They literally changed my wardrobe for the better. It’s like my style cheat. Every time I get stuck on how to complete a look, I think of these pants and usually reach for them.
Anyway, that’s the power of thrift. With a little luck, you can find beloved staples you’ll wear for a lifetime.
